Radikal Normal – über Ehrlichkeit, Verantwortung und Gerechtigkeit
Der Titel ist kein Widerspruch. „Radikal” meint hier nicht extrem, sondern an die Wurzel gehend – so wie das Wort ursprünglich gemeint war. Und die These dieser Serie ist einfach: Eine faire Welt ist nichts Extremes. Sie sollte das Normalste der Welt sein. Was uns heute radikal erscheint, könnte morgen selbstverständlich sein.
Ich bin kein Ökonom. Ich bin niemand mit besonderer Autorität in diesen Fragen – und genau das ist der Punkt. Wenn nur Experten über Ungleichheit sprechen dürfen, bleibt das Thema in einem engen Kreis gefangen. Dabei betrifft es uns alle, und die grundlegenden Fragen kann jeder von uns stellen. Wenn ich das kann, kannst du es auch.
Ehrlich sein heißt für mich, bei mir selbst anzufangen. Nach globalen Maßstäben sitze ich nicht am Rand, sondern mittendrin im Wohlstand. Wenn wir über das Teilen reden, dann gehöre ich zu denen, die teilen müssten. Wahrscheinlich gilt das auch für dich, wenn du diese Zeilen in einem warmen Zimmer liest. Das ist keine Schuldzuweisung – es ist die Voraussetzung dafür, überhaupt ehrlich weiterzudenken.
Radikal Normal ist eine abgeschlossene Serie in sieben Teilen. Sie baut auf den Arbeiten von Menschen wie Thomas Piketty, Ingrid Robeyns und Gary Stevenson auf, übersetzt deren Gedanken aber in die Sprache eines interessierten Laien – für andere interessierte Laien.

The title isn’t a contradiction. “Radical” here doesn’t mean extreme — it means going to the root, the way the word was originally meant. And the argument of this series is simple: a fair world isn’t something extreme. It should be the most ordinary thing imaginable. What looks radical today could be self-evident tomorrow.
I’m not an economist. I hold no special authority on these questions — and that is exactly the point. If only experts are allowed to talk about inequality, the subject stays trapped in a narrow circle. Yet it concerns all of us, and the fundamental questions are ones anyone can ask. If I can do it, so can you.
For me, honesty means starting with myself. By global standards I don’t sit at the margins — I sit comfortably inside the wealth. When we talk about sharing, I’m one of the people who would have to share. The same is probably true of you, if you’re reading this in a warm room. This isn’t an accusation; it’s the precondition for thinking honestly at all.
